Summer may be winding down, but there’s still time for a few more patio days around Metro Detroit. Before unpacking the sweaters and boots from the storage, it’s the perfect time to squeeze in a few more drinks, dinners, and sunny afternoons outside. From cozy neighborhood spots to lively patios that make for perfect people-watching, Metro Detroit has no shortage of places to enjoy the final stretch of summer. Those warm afternoons and comfortable evenings won’t last forever — so grab a friend and soak up every last bit of sunshine. Here are some of the best patios to visit before the season slips away.
The Skip – Downtown Detroit
Nestled in The Belt, an alley in downtown Detroit, is a spot where I spent most of my 20’s. The Skip is an open-air cocktail bar with a tropical aesthetic in an alley full of public art installations and murals. They’re known for fun frozen drinks, tropical concoctions, and craft brews. It’s just a five-minute walk from Comerica Park (sorry, Fifth Third?) and Ford Field, and is conveniently right next to the Z Garage, because we all know parking downtown can be tricky. Side note — this spot transforms for Halloween and Christmas, so make sure to check back in during the holidays.
